What's Your Ultimate Bucket List Trip?

Perhaps you want to climb Mount Everest or trek the Gobi Desert. Or, on a less extreme note, maybe you want to have the ultimate European adventure, hopping from city to city while visiting all the major European landmarks. Whatever it is, almost everyone has some sort of bucket list trip they want to accomplish in their lifetime.

So what's yours?

I asked this question to the Globe Getters on my site to see what these experienced travelers had to say, and the answers were just as varied and diverse as the travelers themselves. Here's a roundup of their ultimate bucket list trips:

"I am torn between climbing Acongagua which is the highest peak outside of Asia and is 22,838 feet. It is in the Andes in Argentina and is considered the highest non-technical climb in the world. Or, scuba diving and snorkeling in Raj Ampat in Indonesia, a huge pristine marine environment."  - Rob Feakins

"Just as I love international exploration, I also believe it's important to explore parts of your own country. This trip has been on my bucket list for a while now, and I'm hoping I can make it a reality soon: I'd love to start in Alaska and cruise down the coast, stopping in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Napa Valley and along California to finish in Mexico. Whew! I'll need a fair amount of time for that one."  - Ali Gaffey

"In Africa: Guinea; Mali; Rwanda; Marrakech and Essaouira, Morocco; Mombasa, Kenya and Zanzibar. In other parts of the globe: Havana, Cuba; Florence, Italy; Tokyo, Japan; Krabi, Thailand and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago."  - Yasmine Fofana

"An RV trip across New Zealand." - Jessica van Dop DeJesus

"As a black woman it is very important for me to visit Africa. I have yet to pinpoint the country I want to visit because I want it to be a decision based solely on emotion (and a little research), but I have no doubt that it will be a life changing experience." - Sanura Williams

"A safari in South Africa!" - Christine Amorose

"Egypt. I've always wanted to take a Nile River cruise. The second choice would be to Australia. I love koalas and kangaroos." - JoAnna

"A trip through much of the Middle East with a focus on ancient history. Places like Damascus in Syria come to mind. Recent conflicts make a lot of the region difficult or impossible to access, so the area is very much of the 'bucket list' variety." - Matt Milloway

"Taking the Trans-Siberian Express from Russia to Asia and crossing 10 time zones; walking across the Salar de Uyuni (Bolivian Salt Flats); seeing the Bioluminescent Lake/Milky Way in Gippslend Australia; skinny Dipping the Blue Lagoon in Iceland and cycling through the Bamboo forest of Arashiyama, Japan." - Larissa Leung

"I have this strange fascination with ancient civilization, so my top bucket list trip was to visit the Pompeii ruins of Ancient Rome and climb to the crater of Mount Vesuvius, and I did it in 2013! Next I’d like to visit the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt and Machu Picchu in Peru." - Subira Z. Willock

"SO MANY! And I'm determined to get my list done in the next three to four years before, God willing, I can start having some children and be willing to slow down my pace of life a bit." - Rondel Holder

"Cambodia. Thailand and Bali need to happen concurrently. I recently told my girlfriend over kimchi that I need to make it to the continent but on a mission trip of some sort so I can spend at least six months there. She laughed but knew I was dead serious. I am. Africa for a week or two just doesn’t seem right." - Metanoya Z. Webb

"Hiking through Petra, Jordan and staying in a Bedouin camp in the Wadi Rum desert." - Christina Saull

"Cruise through the South Pacific." - Matt Long

"Greece! The pictures are absolutely stunning. It is the type of beauty I need to see to believe." - Katrina Garrier

"I’ve always dreamed of riding a motorcycle along the coast from Quintana Roo, Mexico through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana and finishing in Suriname… Okay, maybe French Guiana!" - Patrick Bennett

"Bhutan." - Nastasia Wong

"I'm dying to get to the Maldives and Seychelles, but any trip for me is crossing it off my bucket list. I love going places I've never been before." - Ashlee Tuck

"There are a lot of things on my bucket list, but if I had to narrow down to one trip I would say a round-the-world cruise would be pretty great… or maybe traverse the entire Silk Road." - Chris Christensen

"Start in Cuba, then fly down to Cartagena, Colombia. Move on to coastal Brazil and later Buenos Aires. From there head to Namibia then up to Equatorial Guinea and finally Senegal." - Roxanne L. Scott

As for me, it's hard for me to name just one, as I have quite a few bucket list trips in mind (like many of the Globe Getters on my site). Here's my short list in the following order:

  1. Patagonia (Chilean side but would also do Argentinean), Buenos Aires and Mendoza - I hope to do this in the next year or two!

  2. Watching the Great Wildebeest Migration in East Africa followed by gorilla trekking in Uganda

  3. A road trip down the Californian coast (with lots of wine tasting along the way!)
