Roxanne L. Scott: The Recovering Expat

by Tausha Cowan

Roxanne-L-Scott

Name: Roxanne L. Scott

Occupation: Journalist

Website: roxannelscott.com

Currently Living In: Queens, NY

Travel Motto:  "Read More, Learn More, Change the Globe"  – Nas

Favorite Travel Destinations: Guanajuato, Mexico and Medellin, Colombia

What Makes Her Want to See the Globe: I'm curious by nature, and I always wonder how people live in other places. From mundane tasks such as grocery shopping to weddings and funerals, I want to know how other people do it!

Ultimate Bucket List Trip: Start in Cuba, then fly down to Cartagena, Colombia. Move on to coastal Brazil and later Buenos Aires. From there head to Namibia then up to Equatorial Guinea and finally Senegal.

Best Way to Maximize Vacation Days: Maybe tack on days to the holidays people usually don't take for vacation, like the few days after Columbus Day or Presidents' Day.

Advice for Those Who Want to Travel More: Make it a priority. I know many people who say they want to travel but can't afford it. But they have an expensive car or buy expensive shoes or clothes. The truth is, if you want to be well-traveled it has to be a choice all the way down to your budget. Begin with a travel budget for the year and stick to it. If you don't have the means for an international trip, start local in your area.

If you feel you can swing it, take a break from the rat race and work abroad for a few years. You'll be surprised how much easier it can be to get a job abroad depending on your career or destination.

Social distancing, fall edition 🍂🍁
Put me on, near or in the water, and I am a very happy camper ⛵️ it’s called being a Pisces 😉 Soaking up the last of the New England warm weather with a socially distanced vacation in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island 😍
I sometimes forget that l traveled to Europe twice this year before COVID put the world on pause (two out of what would’ve been five confirmed trips to Europe). This picture was taken during my first Europe trip back in January, which now feels
When you’re reminded that this was your view a year ago 😍🇯🇲
You can find me back here (in my dreams) 😌
I have no problem staying home and staying safe (and wearing a mask when I do go out 😷), but sometimes the travel bug hits hard. On this #WanderlustWednesday, I’m missing my far-flung adventures and looking forward to the next one, whenever an
I recently came across this picture, which was taken back in January during a beautiful evening on Oxford Street in London. Who knows when I’ll be able to walk down a crowded street again without being paranoid 🤷🏾‍♀️ Also, who knows when
